The Music for a Green Planet

Egon Kracht (contrabass) & The New World Quartet

Concert: 20:00 — 21:00

Composer Egon Kracht has seen most of the jazz clubs, theatres and concert halls in the Netherlands from the inside. In this program, he has, in his own words, “cast classical masterpieces in a contemporary form”. Together with his wife, Egon is building a sustainable and self-sufficient house in Almere-Oosterwold. This unique combination of construction worker and musician in him helps to express his vision of a more sustainable world in both disciplines.

“In my music I am looking for a logical synthesis between different genres; rock, jazz, classical, contemporary, it all appeals to me. And I enjoy playing Frank Zappa's music just as much as Bach's. That's why I founded the New World Quartet. An ensemble in which musical worlds meet in a new and sustainable vision of the future. ” - Egon Kracht.

An inventor, a composer looking for new forms, Egon created his own transcriptions of Bach's Matthew Passion, as well as his own Judas Passion and Stabat Mater Stabat Pater. The music he wrote for the New World Quartet is the resounding result: "Dances", a musical novel with a prologue and two suites, which received very positive reviews from the press:

"The combination of flugelhorn, baritone sax and accordion, supported by the double bass of Kracht, provides a rich palette of pure acoustic beauty."

PROGRAM

"Evolutionary Tango" - A musical translation of the evolution on the pulse of the Argentine tango, an inescapable rhythm that feels like the heartbeat of a lover.

“Civilisation Suite” - Complemented by music of Giovanni Felice Sances and John Dowland, “a moment when the minstrel steps straight into modern times”.

"Galanthus Nivalis" - A 5-part suite inspired by the poem 'de Dageraad' by the Flemish writer Guido Gezelle. The first part opens with a positive outlook. A trend that will be continued in the further course of the suite. There is still hope for our world, provided we are willing to organize our lives sustainably.
